Coffee filter machines and jugs are making a comeback in coffee brewing methods.
Popular in North American diners and restaurants the filter machine makes exceptionally good
Americanos.
The brewing method is similar to that of a Cafetiere:
- Place one rounded dessert spoon of coffee per cup into the filter.
- Pour water that has boiled and then rested for about 30 seconds into the filter (Never use boiling water as this scalds the coffee grounds).
- Let the water filter through and then pour into a pre warmed cup.
This method has an advantage over the cafetiere in that the coffee cannot be overbrewed and left to ‘stew’ in the coffee grounds.
However, if your filter machine has a hotplate the coffee will deteriorate if left to stand and be constantly heated.
