- Fill lower compartment of moka pot with cold water (to just below safety valve)
- Add ground coffee to the funnel-shaped compartment. Don’t overfill or tamp the coffee down. Coffee grounds swell with the steam. If the coffee is too tight, steam can’t pass through properly, giving a thick, bitter coffee.
- Screw coffee maker tightly together and bring almost to the boil over a low heat.
- After 3 - 4 minutes, coffee will collect in the top chamber.
- When you hear a gurgling sound, take off the heat immediately. Stir well before serving.
Although this method doesn’t normally produce the traditional ‘Crema’ (the hazelnut foam found on top of an
Espresso),
it can be used with steamed milk and froth to create a delicious
Cappuccino or
Latte,
or again add water for an
Americano.
